Just purchased a GE countertop microwave. Hearing the low hum which is kind of unpleasant--. It heats water, but not hearing any kind of fan as with previous microwaves. Should there be a fan operating on this countertop microwave? null

HI Julie, not sure if I've noticed a fan. The small hum sounds much like my last 15 year old GE microwave but much quieter.

I don't have the hum. I also hear a fan when it is in use. Good luck.

Hello there,

We'll be happy to clear up any concerns! A fan where the internal components are located will run continuously while the microwave is in operation to constantly circulate the air to cool the working parts. It is normal for the internal fan for the electronics to continue to run for a few seconds after the microwave cycle is complete, even if the door is opened.  This fan does not circulate air in the cavity. We hope this helps. All the best! Mike@GEA
