Hi - Thanks for choosing GE! Loosely add items and then add detergent directly to the wash basket. Place detergent packets (pods) in the bottom of the wash basket before adding clothes. I use powder detergent and just add it on top of the clothes. Page 6 Step 2 of the manual . The center hole on the cone is for fabric softener and the side container is for bleach.
