Hello- We appreciate your question and are happy to help! The gasket won't have the opportunity to get mildew or mold if it is cleaned out regularly. We recommend using both hands, press down the gasket. Remove any foreign objects if found trapped inside the gasket. Make sure there is nothing blocking the holes behind the gasket. If you do this regularly, there won't be an issue with having an odor or mildew. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are happy to help! Joyce@GEA

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My experience of multiple front load washers is that there is always some water left in the gasket after a wash cycle. The only way to prevent that happening is to wipe out the gasket after each use. That will help prevent mildew. Periodically using a dilute solution of vinegar helps and leaving the door open between loads also help. Definitely like this washer and like the savings on my water and electric bills
