“The microwave in my over the range hood failed after 8 years and I had to get a new $300 range hood. If the microwave in this combo fails, do I have to replace the entire $2k unit?”

Built-in double ovens with microwave are designed as one model so that the oven and microwave are wired together. You cannot replace just the microwave or just the oven.
