Connectivity can add convenience to the experience of using the air conditioner, but you can certainly choose to use the air conditioner without connecting if that’s better for your mother! The air conditioner can be operated without connecting to Wi-Fi. -Sarah@GEAppliances

Yes you can use the buttons on the display or the remote.  Easy to operate i have not set up internet connection on my units

Yes! Thus is absolutely possible. I use it entirely unconnected from the internet.
