Hi StevieV - Yes, many current top-load washers with a Lid Lock feature will lock while the washer is filling and spinning. On these models, it is critical that the lid stays down while it is filling if you are using Precise Fill (or Auto Fill) rather than selecting a specific load size. Precise Fill senses the load and fills appropriately, so you don't want to add items while it is filling. The washer will not fill while the lid is up when using Precise Fill. On models with a Lid Lock and both Precise Fill AND individual load size selections (ex. small, medium, etc.), including GTW465ASNWW, the washer will fill with the lid up when you select a specific load size. This is because the washer does not use load sensing to fill for a set load size. Thanks for choosing GE! Sue
