• The machine itself is plastic and stainless. The Thermal carafe is also stainless. The baseplate is black plastic, and has NO warming element to rust. The coffee (tea?) stays hot inside the insulated thermal carafe.

We looked into this for you and found out the plate that the carafe sits upon is not plastic. It is coated/painted to prevent rusting. We hope this is helpful.
