If light switch gets turned off unit will run until battery is depleted. So yes switch needs to stay on

Hello, you must leave light switch on at all times in order for it to function. Unless it's battery operated, which I didn't think it was. I leave my switch on 24/7. As for the app. Unfortunately the app doesn't apply to this light. Which is very disappointing. I use the app for door bell and thermostats. You must use the Google home app to view history or turn light on if you want to use it at other times other than security. Hopefully this info helps.

No. Nest Cam with Floodlight doesn't come with a built-in battery and needs to be hardwired to a dedicated power source. You can manage Nest Cam with Floodlight using the Google Home app.
