I haven't tested this but if router goes down, it should not affect furnace. You just won't be able to control the thermostat remotely.

No, your furnace will not shut off. It will maintain the last temperature set, and until your router is back online you'll have to set the temperature manually on the thermostat. The WiFi connection is only for using the remote function via Alexa, Google Home, or through the Nest app. Therefore loss of signal will not impair the use of the furnace at all.

If the router goes down, you will lose the ability to control the thermostat with your phone. It will function as a regular thermostat, stop at the temperature that you have set up.

If your router were to go down, the Nest Thermostat would basically act like a basic thermostat. You wouldn't be able to control the Nest Thermostat from the Nest app, but the Nest would still follow any set schedule you have and would not shut off the furnace.
