Do you have to have wifi for this to work? I don't have wireless internet at my home. Is this thermostat worth it without wifi?

It's use will be greatly limited without wifi. I'm not 100% sure it would even work. I would check on Nest's website before purchasing.

I believe it can still do some of the learning functions and so forth but it can't update its firmware or be accessible from apps without it. I'd say its less effective but possibly still worth it. For what its worth you can do a fair number of things without Wi-Fi since they have to account for the idea of home builders installing these without having Internet around.

I would go with a cheaper thermostat if you don't have internet. The price is on the higher end for this product because of the Wi-Fi feature. It's what allows you to control the thermostat from anywhere using your phone and in turn, saving you money. Maybe go with the 2nd Generation NEST, saving you $50. It will still "learn" your routine, even without internet

Technically you don't, but you get to use more features if you have wifi.

No, it is not. The wifi is what will enable you to control it from anywhere. It would learn your patterns based on when you were home or away and save you energy, but you could easily program a different thermostat that would be cheaper. I would suggest getting wifi for your home though.
