It says the sensor can be used as the primary, scheduled as primary/secondary, etc. Can it be in a room as a secondary unless the temperature goes above or below presets? For example in a nursery could it be set as the secondary unless it got too cold? null

At this time the Nest Temperature sensor can only be scheduled to take priority during certain times of the day, but doesn't have the ability to only take over if a certain temperature is met. With that said we'll be happy to send this up as a feature suggestion for you.

Let's say you have your setpoints for temperature set but your bedroom gets to hot at night. You can set it to the remote sensor and will make adjustments based off that sensor. But- if you're only wanting to used the remote sensor a certain time of day vs the thermostat itself, you can set it to make adjustments based on the time of day: Morning, midday, evening, and night. 
So I have mine set to remote sensor at night and thermostat at morning, midday, and evening.

As of now, no. It's very limited but if you post your suggestions on the Nest forums, I'm sure it could be incorporated in future updates, maybe.

Yes. You can set it as the primary “thermostat” which will allow cooling to desired temp. In that specific room. When you want to change primar rooms, just touch the button to revert back to other rooms.

You cant use it as fail safe if you will. its simply to prioritize one room over another with temps your Nest as prelearned. something like that would be a space heater or cooling system on a Wemo switch that you can control separately. hopefully we will get firmware updates for my customization.
