I don't know if the 5g makes a difference because I have poor service and rarely get bars at all. But the pixal4 has much better reception than the samsung 6 I had!

Not really. It would only improve if you were in a 5g area. It would be better to check all cell providers and see the mapping. This way you can pick a phone service with the most proper service area coverage
