"Activate now" means you have to choose a carrier to activate it with. When you select that option the various carriers will be made available. Note that if you choose to elect "Activate Now" and for example select Verizon to activate it with; they will 'lock' the phone to that carrier. If you intend to switch out sims later down the road or want that optionality I would just activate later. "Activate Later" means you can use any sim with any carrier to operate the phone.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchased and selected activate later as I use AT&T prepay so that was my only option . I think you still will have to set phone up even if select activate now but if you use a provider that is not a prepay version then the $50 cheaper is worth it to activate now I think because if you get the phone and then are going to activate it with a provider that again is not prepay and you selected activate later when purchase then you just spent additional$50 for nothing . Hope this makes sense.
