That depends on your mobile phone carrier. The norm is that your old phone can't work with your same phone umber after the Pixel is set up.

In general, it should be pretty simple to change to a new phone by deactivating service on one and activation on the new one. This won't happen until you power up and set up the new phone. If you're doing it at the store they can handle it. If you're doing it yourself, it should still be pretty simple. 

Just remember to back up you data to your Google account and/or you computer so you can use it to set up your new phone.
