Yes, you can add an additional 4th unit to the system.

Yes. As per Google's Help: "We recommend a maximum of 6 points in a single mesh setup, which can cover up to 9000 sq.ft."
I recommend going into the Help section (three dots on the upper right on the app) , where you can see all the tips and tricks to help improve coverage.

Yes, that's just what we did. Upon initial installation, we got two units, but later decided to get a third one for upstairs. Helped immensely, and it only took a few seconds (okay, maybe a couple of minutes) to get it to set itself up. Using the phone app, it was effortless.
