• No, these work only as a Mesh system. They won’t operate or have the GUI to select a range extension. They do have a much better signal range than the AirPort Extreme individually however, not to mention if used together as a mesh network)..

• I don't think you can use it for extending range, BUT I am using mine in Bridge mode, attach via ethernet cable to one of the mesh-points, as my Time Machine backup. Easy.
