You do not necessarily need to download any apps to use the Karma. Everything you need is built into the Karma Controller. Anytime you need to do firmware updates, download maps, log flights, view live feed and change camera settings, the Controller is there for you. GoPro's Passenger app is available that allows another user to connect to the Controller and view/control camera. This is great to have so your Pilot In Command can continue to fly while your other crew member can be a Visual Observer or control the camera. When pressing the Return to Home button, it gives you 2 options on the screen. It will either return to the spot of takeoff or where ever the remote controller is (this is great if you happened to move around after the Karma takes off). It's not 100% accurate on landing in the same spot, but I've seen it come close to about 1-3 feet of original takeoff.
