No you don't need to purchase a separate remote, because the remote that came with this TV have a microphone so that you can voice command with google assistant. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.So, I have had the tv for about 6 months now. It's a great low cost option for the kitchen. While the remote will work with the tv out of the box (for all the standard functions), it would not integrate with google assistant and detect voice. I finally called customer service and they had me power down, unplug. Restart. Add devices - it then searches for blue tooth devices. While it was searching hold the menu button (the one with 3 horizontal lines) for 3 seconds. This then shows the remote as a device to pair with. After pairing, google assistant worked :)
