I believe backlit simply describes the LED's being directly begins the tv as opposed to edge lit. Now backlit tv's have 2 versions.... direct lit and full array. Direct lit has LED's directly behind the screen and so does full array the difference being full array has zones of LED's that can be turned on and off independently....producing better blacks in dark parts and brighter whites in bright parts. Direct lit can't independently turn on and off the LED's therefore having more grey instead of black and reducing contrast and picture quality. To answer your question this tv is both backlit and full array.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. On best buys backlit description details its actually saying that it’s DIRECT LIT which is wrong on BESTBUYS behalf and I’m sure is detouring a lot of people away from this phenomenal tv because it’s misinformed and needs to be corrected by BESTBUY. So to set the record straight the u8g is a FULL ARRAY local dimming Tv
