Hello- Thanks so much for your purchase and for your question. We are happy to help! This does have an Automatic Fan feature but if it doesn't come on and you are boiling water or cooking something that needs a fan, you can go ahead and press it and turn it on. The Automatic Fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on at low speed if it senses too much heat. Note: If you have turned the fan on you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are happy to help! Joyce@GEA
