  • QuestionMy microwave is model number RE 967 002. It is 24 W X 17 1/4 H. Will this microwave work to replace it?

    Asked by coupe1942.

    • Answer Hi coupe1942, thanks for your question! We're finding that your older model is a countertop/optional built in model. An over the range microwave would not make for a good replacement as they have different installation styles. The model that would make for the best replacement would be the following: PEM31SFSS. It does look like you will need to alter your cutout space a bit. So we would recommend reaching out to a cabinet professional and showing them the cutout dimensions for this unit. Those cutout dimensions can be found in the Quick Specs of this new model. If you're wanting to build this unit into surrounding cabinetry, these are the two trim kits that are associated with this unit: JX827SFSS and JX830SFSS. We hope that this helps! Stay safe. -Michael

    Asked by coupe1942.

    • Answer Hi coupe1942, thanks for reaching out! All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy! - NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. • QuestionCan this microwave be adapted to counter top? Or do you have a countertop version?

    Asked by Curious.

    • Answer Hi - thanks for reaching out! This microwave cannot be installed on a countertop. Over-the-Range Microwave ovens cannot be used on a counter or shelf and are not UL (Underwriters Laboratory) approved for this purpose. Keep in mind the underside is not flat on an Over-the-Range Microwave oven, which would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the vent fan or surface lights were accidentally turned on. We hope this is helpful and please reach out anytime if you have any other questions. Take care. Lauren@Hotpoint

  • QuestionDoes the vent come on any time something is being cooked? (Or, only if you turn it on by pushin the button?)

    Asked by steve.

    • Answer Hello- Thanks so much for your purchase and for your question. We are happy to help! This does have an Automatic Fan feature but if it doesn't come on and you are boiling water or cooking something that needs a fan, you can go ahead and press it and turn it on. The Automatic Fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on at low speed if it senses too much heat. Note: If you have turned the fan on you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are happy to help! Joyce@GEA

    • Answer Hi - Thank you for your interest in a new Hotpoint over-the-range microwave. We do not have information available to us on brands not in our GE family and would not have the dimensions of your existing microwave. We would recommend measuring the actual space you have available above your range and we can then help you determine if this lovely Hotpoint model will work for you. We do hope to hear back from you!
