S Mode is not a substitute for a good antivirus/firewall program. Rather, it is an additional protection, Also, you seem to be confused on a major point: S Mode does not affect which browsers you use to download software, but rather what software you can download.

The "S" in Windows S means "Streamlined": This mode requires less processing power and less memory to run Windows. When you take the computer out of S Mode, you still have security with the built-in Windows defender and there are plenty of third-party security software options available. When downloading and installing third-party programs, make sure you can trust the site first and make sure that it is from the publisher's site only.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I couldn't disable S Mode so returned it. If you have virus protection software, and only download things from reputable sites, you should be fine. I ended up returning two of these because neither would disable S Mode and all my tabs, bookmarks, etc were in Firefox. I think it's just more of Bill Gates wanting to rule the world.
