According to the maintenance guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985614 the maximum amount of RAM for this laptop is 16 gigabytes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.yes you can upgrade the ram. I have installed 2 16gb sticks and its working perfectly. I believe 16gb is all that the factory put into this laptop.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This question was actually answered correctly by both previous replies, the RAM can be upgraded to 32gb,and the manual does say that 16gb is the max RAM. It is not uncommon for the user manual and the actual max amount of RAM to contradict each other. Also, this is not exclusive to HP,I work on all brands of PCs and laptops, and it happens with every brand that I know of. As of why this occurs I can not answer, but as an owner of this particular machine I can attest that it can indeed be upgraded to 32gb. I upgraded RAM to 32gb about 2 weeks after I purchased it, not because it was slow,it is a very capable machine and I highly recommend it.It should run almost any high-demand program that you will throw at it,I upgraded the RAM for the sole reason that I keep my laptops longer than most people and I usually max out the RAM almost as a part of set-up, then shortly after,I upgrade to a SSD,this is where you will see the most improvement in performance. I believe you will be very happy with this HP ,if you decide to purchase. Happy shopping!
