The most obvious difference is the storage capacity-the 1 terabyte drive has four times the storage of the 256 gigabyte SSD. But simple storage capacity is not the whole story. Solid State Drives are newer technology, and are more expensive for the same amount of storage. However, they've got some real advantages: 1) A solid state drive is much faster at both reading and writing. That's because unlike a conventional drive, there are no moving parts, so there isn't the delay of getting the data into position to be read. 2) Again, because of no moving parts, an SSD requires a lot less power to run, and 3) they're much sturdier than a conventional drive. The Optane memory on the other computer is to improve the speed of access from a conventional hard drive. Copies of recently stored data are placed in the Optane cache, where they can be accessed much more quickly than from the hard drive.
