“When setting up, I chose NOT to have the S mode. I followed the directions, and it said it was successful. However, I tried to open chrome..it says "this mode of windows only runs with MS verified apps" Asked "are you sure?" "working on it" is the answer.”

It sounds like S mode is still enabled. While S mode is still enabled you can't install third-party applications. You can remove S mode by following the instructions found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4456067/windows-10-switch-out-of-s-mode I hope this helps.

On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation. In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.) On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft
