• Yes; this model has a function called Single Cartridge Mode that will activate if a cartridge is empty or has been removed!

• Yes ~ when you "hit" the print menu? Just ensure that you select the b/w option. Also? Fun (money saving) fact: You may get any ink cartridges refilled at Costco for a fraction of the price of a new cartridge. However? Each cartridge is only good for one refill; if you try a second time? You WILL have printer issues. Hope this helps.

• No. If it runs low you can go to grayscale, but you still have to replace the cartridge. Hope this helps. Best,

• No! I had the color setup go dry and even with three try's of Canon ink it was a no go.
