Yeah you can adjust the the brightness of the backlighting on the keyboard. There is a button to adjust the brightness: there is the off mode, medium, and brightest.

Honestly, looking at the keyboard in-store doesn't give you a good feel for real world use, because the stores are lit far more brightly than you'd find in most other situations. The backlighting on the keys will be plenty in any situation where you'd need it.
