“It would be VERY helpful if more printers had the control on the front like the Canon Pixma TS 6320. I have limited space for bulky printer. I'm considering the HP Envy 6055. Where are the controls to select "# of copies, black or colored copies?”

The easiest way to do is is to download the free HP Smart app to your printer or mobile device. That will allow you make all of those adjustments
