My printer needs to have black and color ink in order to print even though I’m only printing in black. Does this printer need both to print or if I’m printing in back that’s all I need ? null

Even if the color is out, you can print black. Although, it will remind you everytime you print something.

Yes, the system is designed that you need both cartridges with ink to make sure that the black is correct for you to buy color ink cartridge! Printer makes use of one of three colors in the color cartridge with the black ink and once one of the three colors is used you will need to buy another color cartridge. HP has its hands in our pocket! Now, you and I know why the printer is relatively cheap; otherwise, HP cannot sell you both cartridges.
