They are the same basic printer, but you can tell the difference by the letters at the end: d stands for duplex printing, so it can print 2 sided n stands for network printing, so it can be networked via ethernet w stands for wireless, so it can be networks via wifi (these printers usually also have an ethernet port for hardwired networking, but not always, you'd have to read the description f stands for fax on multifunction printers (not applicable here) This applies to all HP printers.

It contains a wireless card so you can hook just about anything to it via the wireless card.....tablets, phones, laptops, desktops etc. I'm not aware of any other differences so I would do a comparison either on Google or Best Buy! Hope this helps. If you need to print easily and have a router, I highly recommend the m402dw.
