The main difference is that the M428fdw will do duplex (two-sided printing) automatically, while the M428fdn does not.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There are actually two main differences: 1. The 428FDW has facsimile (fax) capability, where the 428DW does not. 2. The 428FDW has automatic duplex SCANNING capability, where the 428DW does not (i.e. unlike the automatic duplex feature the 428FDW offers, with the 428DW you must physically remove, turn over and reinsert the page or document in order to scan a double-sided document). Do not confuse "scanning" with "printing". They are not the same thing in the context of MFP technology. For most, #2 above is a lot more important than #1, since need for communicating by fax (i.e.need for fax machines) is being phased out and replaced by more secure email communication method. So for an extra $100.00, you get these two extra important features.
