yes all ink jets will dry out when not in use a helpful tip is to print at least 1 or 2 pages each month, but your ink will dry out no matter what you do when not using it often. the good thing about this HP printer is you can get free ink refills up to 15 pages per month and that is a savings. Ink is cheaper too if you buy through HP

I would recommend either HP Instant Ink on the Free for Life plan (you can print up to 15 things per month at no cost, and HP just sends you the ink for free) ... or a LaserJet printer, which doesn't dry up since toner is already a dry powder that can last for years.
