• If ink runs out of one cartridge, the printer will not work. You have to replace the single empty cartridge before the printer will print. (I haven't tried scanning when an ink cartridge is empty to see if the scanning function will still work.) Although I haven't tried, it appears you can purchase a single color cartridge, without needing to buy a box with all colors.

• Yes - it will still work if one of the cartridges is out - but of course the print quality will suffer - especially if you are printing something that is heavy on that missing color....! And so then you only have to buy the one that is missing - although you usually get a better deal if you buy in multi-packs that have all the cartridges included.

• You can keep using it after the notice comes that it is low. Haven't tried when it is completely dry.
