You can definitely connect the printer via USB to your desktop! As far as printer maintenance is concerned, the printer will do most of it on its own. You should only have to clean/align the printheads if print quality is not meeting your standards!

I am truly sorry, I don't know. I had H/p technical support hook up my Wireless printer to my Lap Top.

Yes you can hook it directly to your computer or laptop
This HP is way nicer than any Epson you will love this printer
