No. When I connected with Ethernet, wireless was disabled

Unfortunately no. It is one or the other.

The OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer can be connected with an ethernet cable or wireless. however you cannot be connected both ways at the same time.

Probably but I have not tried a wired connection – I've only been using wireless

You can print both hard wired and through an existing wireless connection.
