Hi Rick. Thank you for your question! This laptop has 2 memory slots occupied by 2x 8 GB 5200 MHz DDR5 SODIMM RAM Modules. Each slot will support a maximum of 16 GB RAM Modules (so you would be able to upgrade up to 32 GB Max). It is not required to upgrade memory in pairs, but is recommended, as it will give you better performance and allow you to run in dual channel mode.
