There appears to be a firmware fix for this problem. See HP Support.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The battery drain when off issue is a serious and common problem for this model. I'd return it and get something else. If you send it to HP, they well take two weeks to fix it.

Please try again later.Found another suggestion: powering down while holding down the shift key will completely shut down the laptop rather than putting it into some sort of hibernation / standby. Tried this and it APPEARS to work or at least battery drain is much less. Stills starts back up rather quickly
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Someone suggested going to the power settings and changing under Closing the Lid, uncheck Fast startup. Apparently, the difference in startup from sleeping is negligible and it eliminates the battery drain. I'm going to try it but no guarantee.
