This phone is set up for Sprint so no, it's not unlocked. HTC's site sells both the unlocked and the carrier specific models. I know what you mean as I was going to order this through HTC to get it earlier but held out until Best Buy had it so I could get the points on my Rewards account. Unfortunately you'll have to buy from another site (manufacturer's or otherwise) or play the waiting game to see if Best Buy is going to carry the unlocked version. In my opinion, don't hold your breath. If you look at what's offered from all the different manufacturers it seems like Best Buy isn't doing a whole lot with HTC. I could be wrong, again, just my opinion.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Actually, if you buy it upfront at full price and then have Sprint unlock it it will work just fine on another carrier. And no Best Buy does not seem to care about HTC. To bad really, I am so done with Samsung, to many substandard offerings for me to bother with them again. I have always liked HTC and would like to get the U11 is black from Best buy (for the points) but they only offer the blue. And while I was at BB the other day, I tried to look at the U11, but they don't have them in store. One rep told me that BB does not sell HTC at all. I told him to check the website and walked away, another was correct in saying that they don't carry them in store. Either way, it stinks because I prefer to buy from BB, but since they push Apple and Samsung and don't even have display models of other offerings, guess I am done with buying my phones from them, this after having bought 5 from them in the past.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I actually contacted HTC about this same question. Here is what they told me. The phone that Best Buy sells can only work on Sprint as is. If unlocked, it should also work on Verizon. She used the word, should. However she said it probably won't work on Tmobile or ATT. You have to purchase the phone that is on their website or Amazon in order to get it work on ATT.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sprint network is CDMA based as is Verizon. However, Tmobile and ATT are both GSM based. Technologies are different and require different antennas to connect. Sprint doesn't require the use of SIM cards as the network info is programmed into the phone and hardware. Its possible if unlocked it may work with verizon but honestly I would air on the side of caution and not expect it to or if it does to work perfectly.
