yes, you can upgrade easily to a 1070 or even the new 1080 without changing the current power supply, but I would suggest going to a higher wattage power supply anyways at least upgrading to a 600 watt power supply.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just upgraded to the MSI GTX 1080 8gb Gaming+ card 2 days ago, and it works great!! I'm getting double the refresh rate of the original while playing with Project Cars 2. I was a little concerned because according to specs, the GTX 1080 calls for a 500W power supply "minimum" and that's what the computer has installed. Thankfully, it hasn't been a problem for me and so far it works amazing! A nice bonus was that it couldn't be easier to install. I was using the Geforce Experience app to keep the old card updated. Once the new card was installed physically, the card was sensed by the motherboard and just started working. Additionally, it used the same software from the experience app. In other words, there was ZERO for me to do!!
