• If you are talking about gfci protection, this is not what you need. This outlet protects against electrical surges only.

• This does not replace a GFCI outlet. They are two different outlets with different properties. A GFCI is used near water sources (generally - think Bathroom and kitchens) to prevent accidental electrocution. This is a surge protector which is useful for power surges or electrical strikes in the power line to your home.

• If you are asking about using this in place of a GFI (ground fault interrupt) type of plug (like you would see near a water source or outside) , the answer is NO. This plug only provides surge protection as part of the plug. This would be used in lieu of having to plug in a surge protection device that other items would plug into so that they are protected from power surges.
