Yes, each outlet will be protected independently. Although not a feed through outlet, if installed "up stream" will provide "some" but not complete protection down stream from surges coming from the utility side or power box. However, some surges come from the equipment plugged in being turned on and off. Some surges come from the vacuum cleaner, the blower motor of the central heating/cooling system or kitchen appliances. Because protector does not a feed through feature you may have to add a pigtail and wire nuts when installing, if the electrician or maintenance guy used the feed through feature on a duplex socket. If your wall duplex outlet is split (one outlet is switched for a light and one outlet is not) you cannot replace it with this surge protector does not have a split outlet option unless you give up one and make both powered or both switched. Do not forget to tape or wire nut the bare wires of the other circuit.
