“I'm confused.... SATA 1 is 1.5Gb/s, Sata 2 is supposed to be 3Gb/s... so what is this cable? SATA1 or 2?”

SATA data cables are all backwards compatible. It is SATA I, II, AND III (1.5 to 6gbps depending on your devices and controllers). Your speed will default back to the lowest common denominator in regards to what you're connecting it to. Read my review for why I returned Insignia cables.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Turns out SATA cables will transmit whatever speed necessary and it's only the interface that matters. So as long as you plug this SATA 2 cable in to a SATA 3 interface you will still get the latest 6 Gb/s speeds. The difference in the new standard is a clip is required to hold the cables in place on SATA 3 cables. There may be other differences between what cable you buy, shielding, build quality, etc. But this will work for SATA 3 SSD. I just found this out myself even though 3 has been out for years. If you don't trust this I suggest you do your own research (I suggest it anyway). I always wondered why Best Buy hadn't sold SATA 3 branded cables yet and now I know! SATA 3 branding is sometimes used by companies (not Best Buy) to trick consumers into paying exorbitant cost so might as well just use one of these.

SATA III specifications provide backward compatibility to function on SATA I and SATA II ports. However, the maximum speed of the drive will be slower due to the lower speed limitations of the port.
