You may need to use the ARC(audio return channel) HDMI port. Maybe thats why you arent getting any sound out of it?

It does not require a sound bar. We are using ours without one in a smaller room and it is louder than the tv it replaced. We use our Spectrum remote to control sound now but I think when you first set it up, you need to use the little black Amazon remote to turn the sound up. The + and - button on the left side of the remote. I don’t typically use the Amazon remote for sound so I had to mess around a little to figure it out.
