“Just bought a new laptop and it has a female RJ 45 ethernet socket. Need male on that end and traditional LAN to modem on the other. I have cable, cat 6, but all of it is LAN male / LAN male.Will this work. Could I find just a converter?”

Unless I'm misunderstanding, you would indeed want a male/male cable. That indicates that both ends of the cable are male. Male cables go into female sockets. It's uh... named after mating. Male goes into female. ^^;; So if the computer has a female socket, it accepts males. And as far as I know, traditional LAN-to-modem is a female socket too. Hope that helps. :D
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It sounds like you have the right cable. It should be a CAT 5 or Cat 6 with your 8 pin RJ 45 terminations wired in a CROSSOVER or DATA fashion. Sometimes they are also called PATCH cords. If you have no connectivity after using the Patch Cable you might have a bad cable! This is not too uncommon and if you have a cable TV service you could actually ask your cable technician for an extra one. Otherwise buy them from me at the link below!
