• Yes. But as soon as humidity level increase it kicks on again. I leave mine on continuously.

• Yes. You set the desired level of humidity and the device turns on and off as needed to maintain that level. I have noted that it may not turn on until it gets 2-3% above the desired humidity, but it definitely turns off when the desired level is reached.
