Saved Basement After Water Heater Fail - Grateful!

I purchased this dehumidifier to deal with water damage after our water heater leaked about 8 gallons of water in our carpeted basement. I needed something fast, and powerful to help assuage my concerns over potential mold, musty and moldy smells, and overall peace of mind that the issue was resolved. Since my husband is a steamfitter/ pipefitter by trade, he was able to replace the water heater, and use our shampooer and wet dry vac to address the residual water. However, the carpet felt soaked for the following two days and the overwhelming musty and mildew smell was extremely troubling since I knew that significant damage was already done. When I came across this little guy and the positive reviews, I knew it was a worthy investment to try before calling in experts. The price was surprisingly less than others with less power, and since we trust Insignia products, I knew it was the answer to our critical need. Thankfully, it was on sale during our crisis, so I even saved $50 off an already competitive price. I was extremely grateful. As soon as my husband set it up, it registered about 75% humidity. This little guy kicked on immediately and by the end of the day, had already filled with water. Prior to this event, our basement had a musty odor which we assumed was just the smell of a rarely used basement. However, since using this dehumidifier, the musty odor we had grown accustomed to is also gone. When I walk in our basement now, it is odd to not smell the mustiness any longer, but a fresh smell. There is no sign of mold (we treated all areas with strong hydrogen peroxide as recommended and continue to monitor the situation), so thankfully, no need to call in the expensive experts. This dehumidifier is also extremely easy to use for addressing the collected water. Though my husband has not yet ran the line to the sump pump for it to drain continually, my 11 year old daughter often goes to see if it must be emptied since she can do it by herself…(she just likes being helpful!) This now runs pretty standard and keeps the humidity at around 45% which is what my husband feels is a comfortable level. I am truly surprised at the difference this dehumidifier made in my situation and I highly recommend it to anyone trying to address a similar problem, OR, just to remove the musty humid air from their basements. I am pretty confident that if this unit eventually fails (it is worked pretty hard), I would replace it with the same unit because both my husband and I see the difference this has made for our situation and our basement, and we both love it.

This unit is easy to set up and use. It is Energy Star rated so it uses less power than most other units. It removes humidity in my basement efficiently and is easy to empty the tank. I would highly recommend to anyone needed a great dehumidifier!! Very happy customer.

Great machine and it really draws out the moisture

I am renting a small farm house and it is really musty smelling. The basement leaks every single time it rains. I bought two of these two use in this house on opposite sides of the house. Both of these machines really pull out the moisture. If I put them on continuous I have to empty the 50 pint bins several times a day. I have now changed to 50% moisture as I have turned on the heat, which is a monitor heater. I figure the heater will help with the moisture problem also. That way I don't have to empty the machines as much either. They both are very good! I have no complaints at all. There is a place in the back to put a hose for emptying into a drain or bucket, but I haven't done that. The front bin pulls out and has a very strong handle to carry it to the sink and empty it out. I just slide the bin back in and gently hit it to make sure it's secured in the machine. Then, it comes back on and starts automatically when the bin is reinserted. It is very easy to operate. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this dehumidifier to reduce the amount of humidity in my apartment. It has not disappointed. I'm surprised at how much moisture it's been able to pull out of the air. It's simple to use: I just turn it on and let it go. It will automatically stop once it detects the moisture percentage reaches a set percentage. The container to empty the water is large and easy enough to remove and re-insert. My only complaint, which is something I've noticed on other Insignia products, is that the plastic over the buttons begins to bubble and peel after a short period of time (as seen in the second image).

I've had this for about a month now and have been using it in my basement. It has performed it's primary function, dehumidification quite well. I especially like the "comfort" setting. I have two minor complaints. first, the bucket for emptying the water fits very tightly - so tightly that every time I put it back in I'm afraid that I'll break something as I have to force it in, but so far...no damage. My second issue, since the controls are on the top surface, and the red led indicator for a full bucket is tiny tiny, you can't see if the indicator light is on unless you're right on top of the unit. I'm used to other units that I can just glance across the room and immediately know if the bucket is full.

I purchased this to replace a GE dehumidifier that died in a basement flood and was no longer available in stores. This Insignia is better than my old unit; it's quieter and very powerful. I use a hose for continuous draining, and the design of this dehumidifier is superior to the GE. This unit puts the filter on top in back, making it super easy to remove and clean. The GE had it buried inside, making it impossible to pull it out for cleaning without removing the hose first (meaning I never cleaned it). I am much happier with this dehumidifier. It quickly dried out the basement after the flood.

Don't really understand any reviews positive or negative. Mine has been running for a week straight running straight into a pump. Not to loud. Not so quiet I don't know when it's running. Basement is less musky. Job accomplished.

This is a great little unit, runs reasonably quietly and does a great job pulling the moisture out of my house. I have a central AC that runs mostly decent but it struggles to keep up on hot humid days. Supplementing with this dehumidifier really helps it feel appreciably cooler in the house. It does blow out some heated air, but it doesn't feel like enough to have a noticeable warming effect on the overall temperature of the house. Always blows my mind when I go to dump the reservoir and seeing all the water collected there, just from running for a few hours.

I’ve been using this dehumidifier for a while now, and it really makes a difference. It pulls the moisture out of the air quickly and keeps the room comfortable. The tank is easy to empty, and I like that it runs quietly compared to others I’ve had in the past. It’s straightforward to use, and I’ve noticed a big improvement in air quality no more damp smell. Overall, it’s reliable, efficient, and worth it.

I had been looking at a few options and the rating on this product made me take interest. I really didn’t want to spend more than $200 so I had been watching and hoping for a sale. This model came up on the “deal of the day” and I jumped on it. I’m very happy with my purchase so far! This model does have wheels for easy mobility around the house. I really like knowing how humid my house is with the indicator on the top panel. I haven’t used any of the timed features. I normally turn it on at night and it’s full in the morning. I live by the ocean where it is extremely humid so having a good dehumidifier is a must.

Dehumidifier works well to reduce humidity in our basement. Humidity levels went from 78% to a roughly 45% average in a couple of days and maintains it well. I have it hooked up with a hose into a floor drain.

Great little dehumidifier with drain. I have mine elevated in the garage that gets very humid in summer and this does a great job dealing with it. The drain lets water flow into my utility sink so I don't have to empty it. Have not had any issues with odor/mold like some other brands.
