Yes you can play "compatible" usb drives through this unit.
You can also record onto a usb drive, erase the usb drive, format the usb drive. I record from the cd, radio, Bluetooth, and a turntable that I have connected through the RCA inputs.

The unit has room for 1 cd at a time. But you could hook up an external cd unit as long as it meets the RCA specifications of the stereo.

The manual for my "CM4530" stereo states the following specs:
Aux In: 2.0 Vrms (1 kHz, 0 dB), 75 Ohm, RCA jack (L,R) x 1

Yes it can. it can only play mp3 and wav files though.
the number of cd's that can fit on a flash drive is subjective, I am able to fit approx 29 cd's in 320 kbps on a 4GB flash drive.

I've tried eight different flash drives with this device without any errors. However, I'd suggest you monitor the temperature of the drive during operation as some of the smaller/cheaper ones generate significant heat.
The device holds one CD.

This unit does have a USB input on it designed for use with flash/thumb drives up to 64GB.

It is a single CD player, holding one disc at a time.

I just bought the player and it does play from a USB Drive, but the Random selection does not work. It only works on a regular CD, not even on an MP3 CD. I cannot believe it will not play random from the USB.
