When the air cools inside, it gets dense and forms a bit of vacuum, which can hold the top cover down. Maybe you could open the drain (defrost) port on the bottom front for a few seconds, to let in some air, then lift up firmly on the cover. Be sure to tighten the drain cap back up, so warm air isn't getting inside to form ice on the bottom of your food.. Our freezer door wants to stay down sometimes, so we just lift it harder! Be careful that the top cover doesn't fly back into a wall too hard. Be careful when the freezer is empty. It's easy to move the whole freezer when opening. It needs space from walls behind or beside it. Once the food is in there, it stays in put..
