“I have a new smart TV which has an optical/coaxil connection for a digital audio device. I want to connect my stereo system to the TV (I have a cable that used to go from the stereo to my old TV that had audio out jacks). Would this work? Thanks!”

Yes this unit will work. Connect the digital cable (digital coaxial or Tosilink, aka, fiber optic cable) from the TV's digital out to the converters digital in. From the converter connect rca analog cables to your receivers analog input. Select the input on the receiver to hear sound. If you don't want to keep the converter plugged in all the time, (it has no on/off switch) Home Depot has a single outlet plug with an on/off switch which is illuminated when turned on.There you have it...Enjoy
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I did exactly the same thing and it works great. Just remember to remove the small plastic protection covers on the end of the optical cable before inserting the end of the cable into your tv or the conversion box.
