“my machine ran fine until a squrare box appeared on screen above a flashing esp When this box appeared on my screen the program runs about 60 seconds and turns off. There is no reference in the pamplet to this display. I changed batteries. The unit run fine when the dispay reads esp and 2 lines up to the left are 2 short lines, but when the rectangular box appears on the same line as the 2 short lines the cd runs 60 second and stops.”

It's skip prevention. Look at your disc and clean or it's probably scratched beyond repair.
